Does anyone else crave sweet things in the morning?

Breakfast is often my most calorie dense meal of the day. I typically eat breakfast after working out and after having fasted since dinner the night before— so I’m really hungry.

When I’m craving a sweet breakfast, I look for recipes that are high in protein and fiber, which slows the absorption of sugar in your body and will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

It’s all about balance.

Sweet breakfasts don’t have to be bad for you, they can actually be super nourishing.

These recipes are all refined sugar free, gluten-free, and vegan.

They contain plant-based healthy ingredients that provide antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

Yet, they taste super satisfying and indulgent.

Superfood Breakfast Cookies

They’re oat based and packed with superfoods like pumpkin seeds, sliced almonds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seed, and dried cranberries to provide protein and fiber and are naturally sweetened with maple syrup. A great alternative to to a processed, packaged granola bar.


 

Peanut Butter Baked Oatmeal

This peanut butter baked oatmeal is vegan and can be gluten free (yes, please!) It’s made with plant-based ingredients like banana (or flax egg—depending on your preference), non-dairy milk, chia seeds, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and (of course) peanut butter.


 

Best Ever Chocolate Oatmeal

Not to mention they provide both protein and fiber— leading you to feel fuller for longer. This chocolate oatmeal recipe is quick and easy and contains healthy plant-based ingredients like cocoa powder, chia seeds, and fresh fruit.


 

Warm Quinoa Breakfast Bowls

Quinoa is hailed as a complete protein— meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids we are not able to make on our own and thus need to obtain via our diet. Not only that, but one cup of quinoa typically provides eight grams of protein and five grams of fiber. This quinoa breakfast bowl tastes like warm blueberry pie but is full of healthy ingredients (and sweetened with maple syrup!) Get out of your comfort zone and give it a try— you won’t be disappointed.


 

Vegan + Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

When I went gluten-free back in 2020— almond flour was the first alternative flour I began experimenting with and I think it might still be my favorite (Honestly, they’re all good.) This chocolate chip banana bread is made with a mix of almond and oat flours plus healthy ingredients like ground flax seeds, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Made with no eggs, it’s also vegan and tastes fantastic.


 

Vegan Buckwheat Pancakes

 

Via Deryn from Running on Real Food. Buckwheat is another great alternative to traditional flour. Regarded by some as a superfood, buckwheat contains high amounts of fiber and antioxidants. It has a nutty, earthy flavor and is perfect for pancakes— especially topped with sweeter ingredients like fresh fruit, pure maple syrup, and dark chocolate. These pancakes are made with only eight ingredients and are relatively quick to make!


 

Cinnamon Roll Granola

 

Via Tessa from Salted Plains. I usually reach for granola if I’m craving more of a cereal vibe. Did anyone else grow up on sugary boxed cereals like Cocoa Krispies? Eating granola with plant milk and some fresh fruit just reminds me of eating cereal as a kid (only way better.) Making your own granola is also a good alternative to the bagged store-bought version, which is more processed and can often contain unhealthy filler ingredients. This granola recipe is made with gluten-free rolled oats, pecans, olive oil, maple syrup, and comforting spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
